Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Key Responsibilities
- Partner with engineering, operations, and equipment vendors on design and commissioning activities.
- Complete equipment risk assessments in alignment with ISO 12100 and company safety standards.
- Conduct equipment safety buyoffs with cross-functional teams.
- Develop and improve equipment safety standards where necessary.
- Identify safety improvement opportunities and recommend corrective actions.
- Create and deliver training on equipment and machinery safety.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of equipment compliance.
- Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) teams to provide support as needed.
- Participate in learning teams, investigations, inspections, audits, and related activities.
Required Qualifications
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, automation, and control system design.
- Experience with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO, and related safety standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits, including performance level and circuit structure evaluation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical circuit design per NEC, UL 508a, and NFPA 79.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP) or Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE).
- Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE).
- Experience in battery or EV manufacturing environments.
- Involvement with national standards development (UL, NFPA, ANSI).
- Familiarity with hazardous area classifications, occupancy classifications, and hazardous material inventories.
