Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Duration: 5-Month Contract

Pay Range:$63.50 – $68.50/hr

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments. This role will focus on AWS platform operations, infrastructure automation, container orchestration, and network/cloud security while collaborating with development, security, and operations teams to maintain highly reliable production systems.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, automation scripting, and hybrid Windows/Linux environments while supporting operational activities such as incident management, cost optimization, disaster recovery planning, and monitoring/observability.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Operations

• Manage AWS cloud environments including Control Tower, EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, and related services.
• Provision and decommission cloud resources while managing lifecycle activities.
• Perform instance maintenance including patching, backups, and vulnerability remediation.
• Execute cloud migration and site externalization initiatives.
• Analyze and implement cloud cost optimization and resource cleanup initiatives.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure performance issues and support production environments.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Develop automation scripts and tools using Python or Bash to improve operational efficiency.
• Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Create small automation solutions and proof-of-concept tools.

Containers, Serverless & Platform Engineering

• Manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS).
• Implement serverless architectures and scalable infrastructure solutions.
• Support infrastructure scaling to meet growing application and product demands.

Monitoring, Observability & Incident Response

• Develop monitoring and observability dashboards using tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk.
• Monitor infrastructure performance and proactively address operational issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response activities.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.

IT Operations & Service Management

• Triage and resolve ServiceNow tickets, meeting SLA requirements.
• Create and maintain operational runbooks, playbooks, and technical documentation.
• Implement change management and configuration controls.
• Collaborate with platform engineers for Windows and Linux troubleshooting.

Networking & Security

• Design and maintain network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPN, routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Configure and secure cloud and hybrid environments.
• Implement identity management, certificate management, and access control systems.
• Support integration of proxy, firewall, and cloud access control tools.
• Partner with security teams to ensure systems meet required SLAs, SLOs, and compliance standards.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

• Plan and execute disaster recovery (DR) exercises with application teams.
• Develop and maintain business continuity and DR strategies for hybrid infrastructure environments.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with AWS cloud services including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, RDS, and EKS.
• Experience with AWS Control Tower governance and administration.
• Expertise with Terraform or CloudFormation for infrastructure provisioning.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting for automation.
• Experience managing Kubernetes environments (EKS).
• Strong troubleshooting skills in Windows and Linux systems.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch.
• Experience using ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.

Networking & Security

• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF).
• Experience with network security, encryption, identity management, and vulnerability remediation.
• Familiarity with AWS security services such as GuardDuty, WAF, KMS, Inspector, or Macie.
• Experience working with SIEM tools and log analysis.

Infrastructure & Systems

• Experience with hybrid cloud environments integrating Windows infrastructure(Active Directory, Hyper-V, clustering).
• Experience operating production infrastructure using Kubernetes, Terraform, and observability tooling.
• Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL.

Professional Experience

• 7+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or network engineering roles.
• Experience operating in security-conscious or compliance-heavy environments.
• Strong documentation, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
