Senior Project Manager – Genetic Therapeutics
Location:
South San Francisco, CA
Position Type:
Full-Time
Industry:
Biotechnology / Life Sciences
Overview
We’re working with a biotechnology client developing next-generation genetic medicines who is looking for an experienced project manager to help drive their research and early development efforts forward. This individual will work closely with scientific and operational leaders across internal teams and external partners to keep complex projects moving efficiently — connecting timelines, priorities, and people from early discovery through early-stage clinical work.
This role is well-suited for someone with a deep understanding of the nuances of biologics or gene therapy development, who enjoys navigating uncertainty and building clarity. If you’re energized by a fast-moving environment where no two days look the same — and where your ability to bring structure and focus to scientific teams is valued — we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
- Guide the progress of early research and nonclinical programs, supporting teams from discovery through IND-enabling work and early clinical planning.
- Help align goals and timelines across functional groups — including R&D, manufacturing, and operations — while staying ahead of dependencies and potential roadblocks.
- Keep project plans current and visible, ensuring the right people have the right information at the right time.
- Lead team meetings, coordinating inputs from various stakeholders, and tracking key follow-ups and action items.
- Work alongside budget owners to help monitor spending, anticipate changes, and flag any shifts that might impact project costs or resource planning.
- Support the development of internal project management practices and tools, helping to refine how the team plans, tracks, and communicates.
- Bring a proactive lens to risk — identifying where things might veer off course and working with teams to build mitigation strategies before issues arise.
What You Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in a life sciences field (advanced degree or PMP certification is a plus).
- Around 8+ years of experience in therapeutic development, ideally with a focus on gene therapy, biologics, or similar modalities.
- At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience managing projects in a biotech, pharma, or life sciences setting.
- A history of contributing to cross-functional programs — especially those involving research, process development, or nonclinical activities.
- Familiarity with Smartsheet or similar project tracking tools, and the ability to create clear, useful dashboards or reports.
- A collaborative mindset — you’re comfortable working across disciplines, managing up and across, and partnering with external groups when needed.
- The ability to bring order to complexity and keep a wide range of deliverables on track without losing sight of the big picture.
- Previous experience in a startup or dynamic early-stage company is a plus.
Why This Role?
You’ll join a growing, science-driven company focused on building transformative genetic therapies — and you’ll play a key role in how those therapies come to life. If you’re looking to apply your project management skills in an environment where innovation moves quickly and your work truly matters, this is an opportunity to make an impact.
