ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Hydrogen Group, on behalf of a well-established clean energy developer with an active and growing portfolio
of distributed generation (DG) solar and solar+BESS projects across the central United States, is looking for a
Solar Construction Manager in the Greater Chicago Area to help support with a growing pipeline of projects.
These projects typically range anywhere from 5-7MW DG projects in the Greater Chicago Area, Southern
Illinois, and Minnesota markets, our client is expanding their construction management team to support
accelerating project delivery.
THE ROLE
This is a high-impact, field-facing role embedded within our client’s construction team. You will oversee a
portfolio of active DG solar projects, managing EPC contractors and ensuring every site is delivered to the
client’s quality, safety, and design standards. Their internal SME team handles deep technical questions —
your focus is on coordination, contractor accountability, and keeping multiple projects moving simultaneously.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Manage 5–7 concurrent DG solar and solar+BESS construction projects across a central US territory
• Oversee EPC contractor performance, holding all parties to the client’s quality, safety, design, and
construction standards
• Track project schedules and budgets; identify risks early and drive timely resolution
• Maintain complete project documentation — drawings, change orders, RFIs, daily reports, and closeout
packages
• Facilitate communication between EPCs, project managers, and the client’s internal subject matter
experts
• Review and sign off on materials needed for construction projects
• Conduct regular site visits across a multi-state territory (projects are typically 2–3 hours apart)
• Support current project closeout while simultaneously onboarding new projects entering construction
• Utilize Procore and Solargrade for project tracking and reporting (familiarity a plus)
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
• Experience managing EPCs, general contractors, or subcontractors on construction projects
• Strong project coordination skills — scheduling, documentation, budget tracking
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across a geographic territory
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills — comfortable escalating issues and driving
answers
• Chicago-area residence preferred (territory centers on Greater Chicago Area with some Southern IL
and MN projects)
