Pay range:$65.00 - $71.00 per hour




Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Substation Engineer to manage document turnover and file organization for newly constructed substations within a renewable energy fleet. This role ensures operational readiness and regulatory compliance, with a focus on accurate storage and management of test records, drawings, and configuration files. The Substation Engineer will work closely with construction and design teams to support the successful execution of projects and maintain compliance with industry standards, including NERC requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a substation subject matter expert and customer representative.
  • Supervise contracted field teams responsible for document and file management.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Support data transfer into asset management systems (e.g., Maximo).
  • Assist in the activation of preventive maintenance (PM) tasks for new sites.
  • Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and engineering/construction personnel across solar and energy storage projects.
  • Maintain accurate storage of all substation-related documents (e.g., physical, electrical, relay, equipment drawings) in document management systems (e.g., D2, Documentum).
  • Catalog protection and control system documentation.
  • Manage configuration files for non-protection devices such as communication processors, meters, PLCs, and transformer temperature monitors.
  • Ensure accurate transfer and storage of as-built drawings post-construction.
  • Organize and archive all commissioning and test reports, including relay and equipment tests and ground grid reports.
  • Support control center operations during system checkouts.
  • Maintain and update communication protocol tracking documentation.
  • Recommend procurement strategies for critical spare parts.
  • Ensure proper storage of regulatory and contractual documents, including FAC, MOD, CIP, and agreements (e.g., PPA, GIA).

Desired Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; other engineering disciplines may be considered with relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of NERC compliance requirements.
  • Experience in substation engineering, construction, and/or field project management.
  • Familiarity with asset and document management systems, such as Maximo and Documentum.
  • Proven ability to lead change and process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Background in power generation or renewable energy technologies is a plus.
  • Expertise in Maximo and Documentum is highly desirable.
