Substation Project Engineer II
Up to $42.28/hour, 12-month contract
Juno Beach preferred, open to remote
Occasional travel to project sites (primarily across Florida)

A leading energy organisation is looking to appoint a Substation Project Engineer II to support a growing portfolio of renewable generation and high-voltage substation projects.
This role is ideal for engineers with a solid foundation in substation design who are looking to expand their project engineering and project management experience across the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support renewable generation substation projects from early-stage development through execution and commissioning
- Collaborate with Early-Stage Project Managers to define engineering scope and technical requirements
- Plan, coordinate, and execute multiple projects within budget and schedule constraints
- Develop work plans, schedules, cost estimates, and resource plans
- Manage project risks, changes, and performance tracking using structured tools and processes
- Provide technical oversight and coordination of external Engineers of Record (EORs)
- Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and project-specific standards
- Support sourcing and management of engineering, geotechnical, survey, and construction services
- Coordinate engineering deliverables including Issued for Bid (IFB), Issued for Construction (IFC), and As-Built drawings
- Support FERC Order 1000 RFP processes and competitive transmission project proposals
- Interface with transmission owners, ISOs, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with interconnection requirements
- Assist in procurement and management of long-lead materials and equipment
- Contribute to estimating, scope development, and cost modelling improvements
- Support commissioning activities and project close-out deliverables
- Provide project updates, presentations, and reporting to stakeholders
- Mentor and support junior team members where required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred)
- 5–8+ years of experience in substation engineering or related power infrastructure projects
- Experience with high-voltage substation design and project coordination
- Familiarity with renewable energy or transmission projects is highly desirable
- Understanding of IEEE, NESC, and related engineering standards
- Experience supporting EPC or utility-scale infrastructure projects
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification
- PMP certification
- Six Sigma (Green/Black/Yellow Belt)
- Experience supporting FERC or interconnection processes
