Sustaining Reliability Engineering Technician

Normal, IL (100% on-site)

Duration: 6-month contract

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am-8pm (55 hours per week)

Pay:$45-50/hr




The Sustaining Reliability Laboratory Technician – Battery works closely with test engineers to build, maintain, and operate laboratories for testing automotive battery packs, electrified powertrain systems, and EV components to ensure reliability and performance.




Most Important Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with test engineers to install, configure, and maintain complex powertrain test equipment.
  • Proactively complete high-priority tasks on schedule while tests are ongoing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient working environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate test fixtures and instrumentation using a variety of materials.
  • Disassemble and reassemble production and prototype hardware.
  • Troubleshoot test failures and report findings to engineers.
  • Create and maintain electronic Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Train team members to perform procedures in a standardized format.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory test equipment.
  • Document daily work electronically.
  • Attend daily stand-ups and team meetings punctually.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, communicating clearly with engineers and technicians.
  • Be dependable for scheduled hours, with willingness to work off-shifts when required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a technology field or equivalent technical experience (2+ years).
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to write clear SOPs.
  • Understanding of workplace safety concepts.
  • Flexible to work some Saturdays as needed.
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of low-voltage electronics.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage battery systems and certifications.
  • Understanding of reliability testing principles.
  • Experience with test cells.
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts and cranes.
