Transmission Line Project Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Transmission Line Project Engineer to support the development, design and construction of high-voltage transmission line projects associated with wind, solar, battery energy storage and stand-alone transmission infrastructure.
This position will manage transmission line engineering activities from early-stage project development through construction and commissioning. Design work is performed by external engineering consultants, making this an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong technical transmission expertise combined with project engineering and consultant-management experience.
Key Responsibilities

Manage transmission line design activities from conceptual development through construction and commissioning.

Work with project management and development teams to establish project requirements, engineering scope and design criteria.

Develop scopes of work and support the sourcing, evaluation and selection of engineering consultants and other technical service providers.

Direct and coordinate external engineering consultants responsible for transmission line design.

Coordinate engineering inputs including route development, geotechnical information, LiDAR, survey data and permitting requirements.

Support the sourcing and coordination of geotechnical, surveying, engineering and construction services.

Coordinate transmission engineering deliverables including Issued for Bid, Issued for Procurement, Issued for Construction and As-Built drawings.

Review design criteria, plan and profile drawings, general arrangements and other engineering documentation.

Support competitive transmission proposals and RFP responses by providing engineering deliverables, scope assumptions and technical input.

Partner with cost estimating, construction, development and other engineering disciplines to support successful project execution.

Monitor engineering progress, identify project risks and coordinate mitigation activities.

Provide project updates and technical briefings to internal stakeholders and management.

Promote value engineering while maintaining appropriate design quality, technical standards and project requirements.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering.

Minimum 7 years of direct experience in the development, design, engineering and construction of high-voltage transmission line projects.

Strong knowledge of transmission line design and engineering principles.

Experience managing engineering deliverables, consultants and multidisciplinary project interfaces.

Ability to understand and review one-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan and profile drawings and other common engineering deliverables.

Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to travel within North America as required.
Preferred Qualifications

Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience within transmission or utility infrastructure.

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and/or PMP certification.

Experience with PLS-CADD.

Proficiency with AutoCAD, Primavera and Microsoft Office applications.

Experience supporting renewable generation tie-lines for wind, solar and battery energy storage projects.
The successful candidate will combine strong high-voltage transmission line engineering knowledge with the ability to manage external engineering resources, coordinate multiple project stakeholders and deliver high-quality engineering packages throughout the project lifecycle.
