Position Overview
Wastewater Treatment Project Engineer to support the execution of a large, complex industrial wastewater reuse capital project at a client manufacturing site. This contract role is intended to augment the site engineering team during peak project execution and commissioning phases.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical and project engineering support, working onsite alongside internal Facilities and Utilities engineering resources and external EPCM partners. This is a high-visibility role for an experienced engineer who thrives in the field and can move seamlessly between design review, construction support, and startup activities.
Responsibilities:- Support construction execution through field walkdowns, installation verification, and technical resolution of RFIs and field issues.
- Assist with commissioning, startup, and system turnover activities.
- Support punch list development and resolution.
- Coordinate closely with Operations during readiness and handover.
- Interface with engineering contractors (EPCM), equipment vendors, and third-party subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Track technical action items, open issues, and design clarifications.
- Communicate technical risks and impacts to site engineering leadership.
- Support preparation and review of technical documentation for project gate approvals, regulatory and permitting support, and operations handover packages.

Required Experience
- Anaerobic pretreatment systems
- Membrane Bioreactors (MBR)
- Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems
- Evaporation and crystallization systems
- Solids handling and chemical storage / dosing systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Environmental, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting industrial wastewater treatment, water reuse, or related process / utility projects.
- Demonstrated experience supporting capital projects through design and construction.
- Working knowledge of biological treatment processes, membrane systems, and industrial utilities.
- Prior involvement in commissioning and startup of wastewater treatment or water reuse systems.
- Strong onsite field presence and coordination skills — proven ability to work directly with construction teams, EPCM partners, and operations to resolve technical issues.
- Ability to work effectively onsite in a regulated, brownfield manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in highly regulated industrial manufacturing environments (e.g., life sciences, specialty chemicals, food and beverage, or similar).
- Familiarity with EPCM delivery models and large capital project governance.
- Strong field presence and comfort working directly with construction and operations teams.
Work Environment & Logistics
- 100% onsite at the client facility, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Local candidates strongly preferred; no per diem provided.
- Overtime is not standard; any OT is on a pre-approval basis only (1:1).
- Client background check required prior to start.
- No specific license or specialized software required.
